Time Management for a Writer

A new year already began!  Perhaps it’s time to get organized. I’m only a few decades late on that one!

For the last week of 2009.  I worked on establishing my freelance writing agenda for 2010 – more than just New Year’s Resolutions. It’s a whole writing plan, which will extend into several more productive years.

First: I determined how I was spending my time. I included every waking hour from 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM Sunday through Saturday.

Second: I determined what blocks of time I could use for writing (as well as blocks for administrative stuff like cleaning out e-mails, etc.) Remember, I also do need personal time for food and family, etc.

Third: I made a wish list of all the writing projects I want to achieve. Whew! I know there are only 24 hours in a day. (See Fourth)

Fourth: I prioritized them and assigned them blocks of time.

Fifth:  I compiled this information into a master file.

Sixth: I will document my progress.

Seventh: I will re-evaluate and re-schedule as necessary.

Sounds simple enough? Well, don’t let me kid you. It’s not been an easy exercise. But it’s a start on 2010.

Hopefully, you have a great time management plan for your writing year.

Have a Happy, Prosperous, and Productive One.
